I like your idea of limiting government interaction within your community, but why not be free of the government all together? It would be rather interesting to see how the community would turn out being that there really aren't any types of rules/laws being enforced. What happens if someone does something wrong or with bad intentions-who makes a decision for their actions and ensures that it is not done again? I really like your idea that slavery will not be permitted. It is really interesting that pretty much anyone from anywhere will be allowed into the community.

I like the idea of a much more limited government and the fact that they cannot take away any human rights. The biggest question I have is whether or not the government is responsible for the defense of your city? Do the citizens take up arms against intruders if needed? I realize some other comments mention cheating and fraud, but what's in place to protect you citizens?

This utopia would definitely be an interesting experiment in human behavior. The idea that there is minimal government, religious freedom, and the freedom to pursue whatever will profit citizens would definitely appeal to the population of that era. However, I hope that the citizens would be moral capitalists; otherwise I foresee things going downhill. For instance, depending on donations to run the government could lead to a situation where it is only supported by affluent citizens; the government would then (naturally) become a tool of the rich, not the common person, which could result in instability for the town. There is also some concern about whether greed could have a negative impact on the community. Still, it is interesting to think about what could go right (or wrong) with this utopia.

I like your clear and succint description. Your ideas are good, they are very bold and well thought off. I like the way you have explained who a Libertarian is. Your definition followed by how your community will adapt to their ideals, was excellent. Your community seems extremely capatilist, and there isn't much "society" or social concern. Would there be any means of ensuring fair competition, preventing cheating, embezzelement and fraud? With a highly capitalist ideal, and the attraction of minimal governement, you'll just have to make sure that the morals of your community do not deteriotate. Overall great concept. I like how you have not build roads and left that to the citizens of your community.

Your format for this post was original, but I'm not sure that this has a thesis. Was the argument that slavery was accepted at that time? If so, I don’t think that’s really something that’s in refute. It also seems to ask more questions than provide answers. The second question you ask about how people ever accepted something that today we see as morally wrong is a good one. Given the magnitude of change in society’s views/treatment of African Americans since the passage of the Civil Rights Act in the 1960s, it seems clear that people must have known deep down that what they were doing was wrong.

I think that you made some interesting points by the questions that you posed. I don't think that we will ever be able to understand the reasoning behind slavery, and why it was thought that such a degrading and inhumane action was acceptable to society during that time period.

You also made an interesting point about whether the slaves where a form of cheap entertainment. I do think that it is quite possible that the slaves taught themselves skills such as playing the violin for entertainment as a method to entertain themselves. I also believe that the era ,in which the ads are posted, did not tolerate runaway slaves. Many owners offered rewards for the return of their slaves, and there are some which offered a bigger reward for the return of the slaves severed head. These actions were inhuman, degrading, and malicious.

You picked one of the same ads that I did. I liked how you asked questions to the reader to keep them engaged and make them think about it. I guess it didn't matter how young or old you were. If you were a slave you were going to receive the strictest punishment. It's sad and your right that it's hard to imagine slavery being tolerated today, but it still exists today.

Your choice of advertisements is very clear in representing your ideas. There is no vagueness in your arguments. I like how you asked questions, suggesting the answer for the reader to determine! I like how you have drawn and proven your idea of cheap entertainment, I would have never thought of that! I like how you have used ads, without much details to draw on conclusions that are as grand as 'the law supported slavery, and it was a matter of status quo.' Finally, the fact that you have added personal details and feelings to this post make its message even more effective. The word "cringed" to describe your personal feelings, and mentioning your son; make this post very effective and human.
